Water Softener Information for Lloydminster

What is a Water Softener?

A water softener is a unit that is used to soften hard water.

Water is hard when it contains high levels of metals like calcium and magnesium.

The water softener unit contains "resin beads" that are covered with sodium chloride that has an opposite electrical charge to that of the calcium and magnesium.

When the water is run through the beads, the metal switches places with the sodium chloride, meaning that the calcium and magnesium attaches to the beads while the sodium chloride is expelled into the water, therefore making it soft.

Any excess minerals are then flushed into a wastewater drain.

Prevent slimy texture and lime scale build-up that can clog pipes and damage appliances.

What are the benefits of soft water?

Soft water is beneficial, as hard water can clog pipes and also prevent soaps or detergents from dissolving properly, which can cause slimy water texture.

Soft water prevents lime scale build-up that can damage pipelines or shorten the life span of household appliances like dishwashers, air conditioners and washing machines.
